Liberty-Benton races past Riverdale
MOUNT BLANCHARD — An eight-run third inning but Liberty-Benton ahead for good in an 18-8 victory against Riverdale Monday in Blanchard Valley Conference softball play at Riverdale.
The Falcons (10-9, 3-5 BVC) had taken a 5-4 lead after two innings, but the Eagles (17-4, 8-1 BVC) scored 10 times over the next two innings. They added four runs in the sixth inning to end the game early.
Kylie Steinman was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, driving in three runs and also scoring three runs. Alyssa Roberts had three hits and three RBIs, and Hayden Gillig had two hits, including a double, and scored four times. Lauren Erdeljac added two hits and three runs.
Graci Kline led a big day at the plate for Riverdale with three hits, including a home run, and four RBIs. Addie Farmer doubled twice among three hits and scored two runs. Addi Manns added a pair of singles.
Farmer took the loss, giving up 12 runs (three earned) on seven hits and six walks with two strikeouts in three innings. Manns gave up six runs on 10 hits and one walk in the final three innings.
Sydney Ruetz was the winning pitcher in relief, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits with two strikeouts in three innings.
Riverdale hosts Ridgemont at 5 p.m. today.
