Within the next ten years, half of Hardin County’s work force will have retired. In order to better prepare their replacements, educators and business leaders will need to work together, said Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance President and CEO Jon Cross.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Two years ago, a trio of Riverdale teachers visited Japan through a program at the University of Findlay. During their tour, Kristie Thacker, Stephanie Higgins and Jon Hayfield visited the Eisu Gakkan High School in Hiroshima, where they met the students and discussed common educational concerns with the staff.

Russ Blue didn’t grow up with visions of becoming a firefighter. His father fought fires before he was killed in a motorcycle accident when Blue was a child. “I just never gave it a thought,” he said.

ADA — In 1952, the Ada Kiwanis decided to raise some funds for the club by sponsoring a sausage and pancake breakfast. Those members could have hardly imagined members of the organization would still be feeding the community at the annual event 64 years later.

Kenton band director Travis Wissman was anxious about the reaction of high school band students to the new design for band uniforms. The Kenton Band Boosters and Wissman had been working with Stanbury Uniforms on the design for many weeks for the first new band uniforms in 20 years.

Kenton won its fifth straight powerlifting state title on Saturday. The Wildcats lifted 13,830 pounds as a team for the top total at the Division IV, V, VI, VII state powerlifting meet.

While the animals are what veterinarian Dr. Earnie Kearns works with on a daily basis, he takes the most pleasure in working with the people who take care of those animals. Kearns has been with Diamond M Veterinary Clinic in Kenton for nearly 17 years.
