Oates repeats as WBL champ

LIMA — For the second straight year Kenton senior Claire Oates dominated the Western Buckeye League and won the first singles title at the WBL girls tennis tournament. “It feels great,” Oates said of repeating.

Kenton first-graders (from left) Hayley Rayburn, Tyler Shirk, Taven Spriggs and Kavin Risner had outdoor classrooms Friday morning at the Sweet Harvest Festival at the Althauser Honey Farm, northeast of Kenton. They inspect the gourds on a farm wagon as they wait their turn to visit the pumpkin patch.

The Kenton Wildcats will celebrate their homecoming Friday, Oct. 2 with a game against Shawnee at Robinson Field. The dance will follow on Saturday evening.

The Kenton Fire Department was called to a fire at 9:27 a.m. Friday at 8584 CR. 135 at a home owned by Cheryl Busch. According to Chief Russ Blue, when the responders arrived, they found the house heavily involved in smoke.
