As I sat thinking about what to write about for the “Word for the Day” article, I couldn’t help notice the rain falling and the field across from my house looked more like a lake than a field of soy beans. This got me thinking about the Bible story about Noah.

Latter Rain Quartet will be in concert on Sunday, July 16 at the First Brethren Church in Williamstown. The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Latter Rain sings a mixture of Southern Gospel and traditional hymns of faith.

Zap! Pow! Yay! Come join all the superheroes and discover the true hero at Central Church of Christ in Kenton during Vacation Bible School. Vacation Bible School, for all children age 4-12, will be held on July 17-21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church, located at 815 E. Columbus St.

The Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation invites area singers to join the 2017 Assumption Choir. This choir, along with a brass quintet, will lead the music for 10,000-plus people attending the Vigil Mass of the Assumption, in the Shrine Park, on Monday, Aug. 14 at 9:30 p.m.

Kenton Full Gospel Church, located at 129 N. Wayne St., will be hosting a night of gospel singing featuring One Voice and Chris Horne at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 16.

Carolyn Wireman of Lima will be ministering at Kenton Full Gospel Church, 129 N. Wayne St., at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 19. The public is invited.

The Belle Center United Presbyterian Church, 202 Walnut St., will have its Vacation Bible School, “Hero Central,” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday, July 17 to 21.

FOREST — Two guests to appear this year’s Tree Town Festival in Forest have faced adversity in their lives through courage and faith.

ALGER — For nearly a quarter of a century, David Trusty led the congregation at McGuffey Free Will Baptist Church. On the first Sunday in May, that came to an end as Trusty stepped down as the church’s pastor.

When you think of George Washington and Benedict Arnold, you probably think you know them and the vast difference that separates them – one being a hero amongst heroes and the other being a traitorous villain. In reality (and I am indebted to Aram Bakshian Jr.’s article "Honor and Glory," The Weekly Standard (12-26-16) for this), the two weren’t that different in many respects.
