LaRue dairy farmer represents industry during Capitol Hill visit

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Karl Wedemeyer, a dairy farmer from LaRue, recently visited Washington, D.C., to meet with congressional leaders and discuss issues impacting the dairy industry. Wedemeyer attended the 2017 National Milk Producers Federation’s Dairy Policy and Legislative Forum as a representative of Dairy Farmers of America’s (DFA) Young Cooperator (YC) program.

Rainy May results in replanting of crops

For the time period of May 1-May 31, Extension rainfall reporters recorded an average of 7.21 inches of rain in Hardin County. Last year, the average rainfall for the same time period was 3.27 inches. Rainfall for May was 3.45 inches more than the ten year average rainfall during the same dates.

Update on wheat disease

Wheat is now flowering in parts of northern Ohio and will continue to flower over the next week or so. According to the Fusarium Head Blight forecasting system (http://www.wheatscab.psu.edu/), the risk for head scab is low in central and northern Ohio for fields flowering at this time.
