ADA — Visitors to the Ada Municipal Swimming Pool this summer will have a like-new slide to enjoy. At its regular meeting Tuesday night, the Ada Village Council approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to enter into an agreement for the water slide refurbishing project.

ALGER — The committee studying the employee handbook for the village of Alger will meet in a work session at 6 p.m. today in council chambers. The ordinance review committee will be meeting Monday at 6 p.m. in the town offices.

Blighted properties are a concern in all Hardin County communities, but paying to raze or repair the buildings can be expensive with little tax benefit. Tuesday morning the county’s mayors and village officials met with the county commissioners to hear the benefits and advantages of creating a land bank which would give each community funding to assist with the process.

A Kenton City Council special meeting Tuesday night to focus on finding money to hire a new police officer turned into a larger discussion about the city’s financial situation. The meeting was called by City Council President Joel Althauser in response to a Friday memo from Mayor Randy Manns, who instructed Police Chief Dennis Musser to hire another police officer.

Absentee early voting begins today in Ohio for the March 15 primary election. Voters may cast their early ballots at the Hardin County Board of Elections office in the basement of the courthouse.

Kenton will address the problem of semi-trucks using a one-block section of North Street as a crossover from North Detroit Street (U.S. 68) to Main Street (Ohio 31). Councilwoman Antwilla Davis raised the issue at a Safety Committee meeting Tuesday afternoon.

DUNKIRK — A marketplace navigator will be at the Hardin Northern Public Library in Dunkirk from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday. She will answer questions about health insurance and the expanded Medicaid program, and help to determine eligibility and assist with the enrollment process.
