The Kenton police and fire departments presented their case for additional staffing at a Kenton City Council finance committee meeting Monday night. Both KPD Chief Dennis Musser and KFD Chief Russ Blue were asked to return with more financial information showing how they can pay some or all of the cost for new staff hiring from their own budgets.

ALGER — A member of the Alger Village Council proposed an after school program in his village to battle the vandalism, drug use and boredom of the youth of the community, but council rejected the plan at its meeting Monday night.

DUNKIRK — Mayor Terry Cramer gave her report on the county-wide mayors meeting to the Dunkirk Council at its regular meeting Monday evening. Cramer informed council that at the meeting, the mayors heard from representatives of Swartz, a disaster cleanup company looking to work with the towns and villages in the county.

The Hardin County Veterans Services Commission issued its report for the month of January. There were 25 vouchers written.

Criminal damaging was reported at Seton Kenton Apartments. Suspicious males were reported in the 800 block of King St.

Ever since her time growing up on a Logan County farm near Indian Lake, Sandy Knott has known she wanted to work for the Ohio Department of Transporta-tion. Knott’s father had an excavation business, and she enjoyed the work that came along with it.

The City of Kenton finds itself with the same problem in replacing its fire chief as it faced in naming a new police chief. No one passed the initial civil service test.

Hardin County Commis-sioner Edward O. Elliott II died Saturday morning at the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus. He was 69. Elliott, who was seeking a fourth term as county commissioner in March 15 Republican primary, served the community in many capacities throughout his life. He had served as chairman of the county commissioners last year.
