DOLA — Two teachers will be retiring from the Hardin Northern School District this year, but both plan to return in some capacity to the school next year. Jeanette Karcher expects to see the Polar Bear students as a substitute teacher. Michael Dennis is returning to teach full-time.

After a year’s absence, the Buggy Ride bicycle tour is returning to Hardin County on Saturday, June 13. The Hardin County Family YMCA and the Healthy Lifestyles Coalition have taken over sponsorship of the tour.

ALGER — For many years, the residents of Alger have paid a flat rate for water services no matter how much they used. This year a grant paid for each home and business in the community to have metered service and the changes could be costly, warned members of the Alger Board of Public Affairs at their meeting Monday.

ALGER — The Alger council on Monday night discussed a proposal which would clear the alleys in the town and creat what some members predicted would be “hell.”

Kenton High School seniors received $122,545 in scholarships during Senior Awards Day on May 26 in the gymnasium. They included: Dollars for Scholarships - $10,825, local scholarships - $16,920, R.E. and Joan Allen Scholarships - $26,750, Kenton Excellence for Education Foundation - $60, 500 and outside scholarships - $7,550.

DUNKIRK — The Dunkirk Village Council discussed the cost of use of the village ball parks for Hardin Northern School at its regular meeting Monday.

Ohio 31 north of Byhalia in Union County is expected to be closed the rest of this week for a culvert replacement.

A suspicious vehicle was reported in the 300 block of Decatur Street. Jessica Alford, 420 E. Franklin St., reported a theft from her residence.
