Hardin County Fair season and membership tickets will go on sale all over the county this week. Either ticket sells for $20.

A Kenton man spent two weeks on his hands and knees in an Israeli cave this summer searching for human remains and tools at an archaeological site estimated to be at least 50,000 years old. John Dulin was part of a group of students and professors from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland to travel to the Manot Cave in western Galilee.

A former Kenton mayor, councilman and civic leader has died. Gary Ritzler died Thursday in the Ohio State Medical Center in Columbus.

The crew at Helping Hands Outreach feels as if they have “too many irons in the fire” at this time of the year. The volunteers are preparing for Saturday’s Kids Day at Kenton’s Wharton Park, they are also taking applications for school supply assistance, planning a community spaghetti dinner, a Thanksgiving meal and the annual Christmas support program.

As Kim Wise faced Judge Scott Barrett on Wednesday in Hardin County Common Pleas Court, it was hard for most who were familiar with her case not to reflect on how worse her situation might be if her cigarette lighter had worked. The Forest woman was convicted by a jury in June on 16 counts, including 11 charges of aggravated arson.

A Chillicothe man was sent to prison for more than six years after he pleaded guilty to charges in Hardin County Common Pleas Court. According to court records from Prosecutor Brad Bailey’s office, David Keith Smith, Chillicothe, was found guilty of one charge each of breaking and entering, grand theft and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity at a Kenton business.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony at Iron Fit Gym, LLC, 148 Harris St., Kenton, is set for noon Friday. It will be conducted by the Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance along with the Hardin County Ambassadors.

ALGER — The boil alert for the village of Alger water customers has been lifted as of Wednesday afternoon.

Riverside Avenue between North and Park avenues in Kenton will be closed to traffic Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for Kenton Kids Day at Wharton Park, announced Safety Service Director Jim Hites.

The Kenton-Hardin Board of Health gave a second reading to new regulations which would require an inspection of wells and septic systems as part of a real estate transfer. The Real Estate Inspection Program would allow the county to identify systems which are failing or discharging off site, said Director of Environmental Services Shane Lotts.
