Kids Day activities, school supplies keep Helping Hands busy

Starting school

The crew at Helping Hands Outreach feels as if they have “too many irons in the fire” at this time of the year. The volunteers are preparing for Saturday’s Kids Day at Kenton’s Wharton Park, they are also taking applications for school supply assistance, planning a community spaghetti dinner, a Thanksgiving meal and the annual Christmas support program.

Break-in, theft of Murphy Oil results in prison time

A Chillicothe man was sent to prison for more than six years after he pleaded guilty to charges in Hardin County Common Pleas Court. According to court records from Prosecutor Brad Bailey’s office, David Keith Smith, Chillicothe, was found guilty of one charge each of breaking and entering, grand theft and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity at a Kenton business.

Health board learns more about inspection program

The Kenton-Hardin Board of Health gave a second reading to new regulations which would require an inspection of wells and septic systems as part of a real estate transfer. The Real Estate Inspection Program would allow the county to identify systems which are failing or discharging off site, said Director of Environmental Services Shane Lotts.
