The nighttime Fourth of July sky over the Hardin County Fairgrounds will be filled with “lots of vivid colors and effects.” That’s the promise from Mike Comstock of Kenton, the licensed pyrotechnician in charge of the annual show which is slated to begin at 10 p.m. Saturday.

ADA — The Ada-Liberty EMS was recently awarded the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline 2015 EMS Bronze Performance Achievement Award. The EMS was recognized by the AHA for its focus on “not just ‘high-functioning’ but also ‘high-quality’ STEMI (ST segment elevation myocardial infarction, or severe heart attack) systems of care.”

UPPER SANDUSKY — A Forest man pleaded guilty Wednesday to attempted felonious assault in Wyandot County Common Pleas Court while admitting to getting into a bar fight in Kirby with his alleged victim.

A Kenton man received prison time earlier this week after pleading guilty to one count of abduction and one count of assault in a case heard in Hardin County Common Pleas Court. Nichols J. Griffith was sentenced to 18 months in prison on the abduction charge and 180 days of local incarceration on the assault charge by Judge Scott N. Barrett.

The Kenton Times will publish a morning edition Friday in advance of the Independence Day holiday on Saturday. The newspaper staff will finish putting the paper together tonight for the early publication time.

The home of Brenda and Tom Wilcox of rural Ada was awarded one of the June 2015 Outstanding Beautification Awards from Keep Hardin County Beautiful. Their landscaping features a wide variety of perennials situated along a winding stone path, all surrounded by an antique wrought iron fence.

ResponsibleOhio, a group behind a petition effort to legalize marijuana use in Ohio, reports obtaining 1,253 signatures from Hardin County in its effort to qualify for the November ballot. On Tuesday the group delivered 695,273 petition signatures to the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office.

All Kenton Elementary School students will be offered breakfast for free during the 2015-2016 school year. The board, during a special meeting this morning, approved a free breakfast in the classroom program for the students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade.

The Kenton Board of Education approved the hiring of seven new teachers and a high school guidance counselor, and OK’d a free breakfast program for all elementary students for the 2015-2016 school year during a special meeting this morning.

DOLA — Hardin Northern Elementary Principal Sally Henrick gave her final report to the school board at its regular meeting Tuesday afternoon.
