The Kenton Fire Department recognized Fire Prevention Week with its annual poster contest for Kenton second-graders. The 2019 winners were: (front) Nolan Asman, Emily Humphries (left), Serenity Wise, Cora Buck, Presley Purcell, who was also the grand prize winner of the contest.    

Van Wert ran more than twice as many offensive plays as Kenton did Friday night. But it was the Wildcat offense that came up with the big plays and their defense that while it bent, did not crack for the most part as Kenton rolled to a 48-25 victory over the host Cougars in Western Buckeye League action on Friday night.

The Ridgemont Golden Gophers’ losing streak of 15 games dating back to Week 2 of the 2018 football season has finally been snapped. On Friday night, the Gophers earned a 38-26 victory over winless Elgin.

— After jumping out to a 24-0 halftime lead over Urbana, the Benjamin Logan Raiders held on in the second half for the 42-20 football victory on homecoming night. The Raiders improve to 2-5 on the season, 1-1 in the Central Buckeye Conference’s Mad River Division. The Hillclimbers still remain in search of their first win, sitting at 0-7, 0-2. …

The Ben Logan Lady Raiders ended day one of the Division II women’s golf state tournament at the Ohio State University Gray Course in eighth place on Friday with a team score of 347. Sydney Wesson shot a 75, Mailiis Simovart shot an 81, Gabrielle Schmidt shot a 91, Leeah Valentine carded a 100 and Willow Titus shot at 107.

A night of family fun is being planned for Saturday’s Little Pumpkin Fest in downtown Kenton. The event, set to run from 5 to 9 p.m., is sponsored by the Hardin County Young Professionals.

MOUNT VICTORY — Hardin Leadership produced another 18 graduates who were recognized during a program at the Plaza Inn Restaurant in Mount Victory on Thursday night. It marks the 27th graduating class for the leadership training program which started in 1993.

VAN BUREN — At the last minute — literally — the ball finally bounced Riverdale’s way. Logan Frey’s shot deflected off the bottom of the crossbar and down into the goal with just 49 seconds remaining to give the Falcons a 1-0 victory and the boys North Central Ohio Soccer Association championship Thursday at Van Buren.

Elida defeated Kenton 25-16, 25-23, 25-14 in Western Buckeye League volleyball action on Thursday. The Lady Wildcats were led by Lacie Nichols with 13 digs, Jenna Manns with 13 assists, and Laney Harpel with 11 digs and 10 assists.

Local historians and interested guests will gather at Grove Cemetery on Saturday to “meet” some of Kenton’s prominent citizens from years past. “A Walk Among the Tombstones” is being presented by the Hardin County Historical Museums in partnership with the Hardin County Players. Members of the Players will represent various people buried in Grove Cemetery and will share their stories with guests to the event.
