BUCYRUS — Amanda Howland was the only Ridgemont athlete to qualify for regional competition on Saturday at the Division III district track meet at Bucyrus. The Gopher freshman will be moving onto regional competition in Lancaster after placing third in the pole vault with a leap of 9-0.

The Ada Kiwanis Club met at noon on Tuesday, May 14 in the Wishing Well, McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University, Ada. President Joe Ferguson presided at the meeting. Ken Blanchard of Allen County Literacy was welcomed as a guest. Jon Umphress offered the invocation.

Kenton High School presented awards and scholarships during its annual Senior Awards Day on Tuesday, May 14. A total of $153,300 in scholarships was awarded to students from the following funds: R.E. and Joan Allen Foundation, $32,000; local scholarships, $25,600; Dollars for Scholarships, $14,300; and Kenton Excellence for Education Foundation, $81,400.

ADA — The Ada Kiwanis Club awarded academic scholarships to six members of the Ada High School graduating class of 2019 at the annual Senior Awards Honor Dinner on May 15 in the Ada Schools cafeteria. Ada Kiwanis Club President Joe Ferguson presented the scholarships to Kama Arn, Rob Allison, Raina England, Cade Mullins, Sumaya Tasnim and Keli Trudeau.

Cindy Keller has fought the effects of hearing loss for several years. She often didn't hear someone knock at her door. She overslept because she didn't hear the alarm go off and she has been surprised to find people in her office at the Kenton-Hardin Health Department after she failed to hear them enter.

John Metcalf, CEO of Mid-Ohio Energy, presents a check for $10,000 to Hardin County Economic Development Director Jacqualine Fitzgerald. The funding is to be used to develop strategic plans for each village in the county and the city of Kenton, said Fitzgerald.

Nicole Hackworth's first grade class at Hardin Northern Elementary School won the annual Coin War competition this year. The total raised by the school was $523.09.

DEFIANCE — Four athletes and one relay team for the Kenton Wildcats track and field squad advanced to next week’s regional competition in Piqua by placing in the top four during Friday’s Division II district competition in Defiance.
