McGUFFEY — A 27-point first quarter for the Ada Bulldogs set the tone early and allowed them to cruise to a 40-7 win over Upper Scioto Valley in the season-opening football game on Friday. Helping the Bulldogs to victory was the combination of quarterback Seth Conley to Aaron Everhart.

Arthur “Gene” and Carol (Black) Miller of Alger are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married on Aug. 26, 1967 by the late Ron Briggs at the McGuffey Church of Christ.

MOUNT VICTORY — The Ridgemont Board of Education didn’t have to look far in selecting the future superintendent of the district. Sally Henrick, the current K-12 principal of curriculum and instruction, will be taking on the district’s top job as of July 1, 2018.

ADA – The Ohio Northern University Mobile Health Clinic has an official set of wheels. The 38-foot bus is in its first season of operation by the College of Pharmacy’s ONU HealthWise outreach efforts. It was obtained through support from CVS and Mercy Health in Lima.

St. Marys defeated Kenton 164-182 in a Western Buckeye League golf match at Memorial Park Golf Course on Thursday afternoon. Rocco Longbrake carded a 43 on the back nine holes to lead the Wildcats, while Cole Dearing added a 44, Cruz Bryant a 46 and Brock Cote a 49.

MOUNT VICTORY — Elgin cruised past Ridgemont 25-8, 25-16, 25-13 in a Northwest Central Conference volleyball match on Thursday night. Shaylee McGrath led the Gophers offensively with 6 kills, while Sidney Richardson was 8 of 9 serving and added 2 digs defensively and Cassidy Knapp was 6 of 8 serving with an ace and 2 kills.

FOREST — If everything goes according to plans, Forest may soon be the home of one of Ohio’s first medical marijuana factories. The future of the proposed 25,000-square-foot plant lies with a state board which is considering applications from 109 potential cultivators with just 12 to be licensed, said Janet Breneman, co-owner of Green Camp Provisions LLC.

Holding a two-goal advantage over Ada midway through the second half, the Kenton Wildcats smelled blood. And the Wildcats feasted as they netted six goals in a span of 12 minutes on the way to an 8-0 boys soccer win over the visiting Bulldogs on Wednesday night.

ADA — Holding a 2-0 halftime lead, the Kenton Lady Wildcats put in six second-half goals against Ada to take the 8-0 win on the road against their Hardin County foe on Wednesday afternoon. The Wildcats got goals from four different scorers. Leading the team was Hannah Holland who racked up a hat trick. Kori Barrett and Caitlyn Tudor each netted two goals and Sidney Plott also put one home for the Wildcats.
