WILMINGTON — Ben Logan’s Cole Houser earned a spot in state wrestling meet with a third place finish at 138 pounds at the Division II district tournament in Wilmington this past weekend. The top four in each weight class advance to this week’s state meet in Columbus.

NORWALK — Kenton’s Noah Eikenbary and Mason Rhoades both won matches as the Kenton wrestling team finished 2-5 in the Division II district wrestling tournament at Norwalk High School this past weekend. Eikenbary, wrestling in the 195-pound class, won his first round match over St. Marys’ Austin Giesige 2-1.

DEFIANCE — The three Riverdale wrestlers had a rough day at the Division III district wrestling tournament at Defiance High School on Friday, dropping all six of the matches in which they competed. The Falcons’ Ethan Hayes was pinned by Oak Harbor’s Jake Sage in 35 seconds in the opening round and by Archbold’s Gibson Burkholder in 39 seconds in the consolation bracket.

Kenton High School will be recognizing its winter sport athletes during a program at 7 p.m. March 20 at KHS. Those that participated in boys and girls basketball, bowling, cheerleading, swimming and wrestling will be recognized.

LIMA — With two of their best players sidelined with three fouls early in the second quarter, the Upper Scioto Valley Rams faced an uphill battle against New Bremen in Friday night’s Division IV boys basketball sectional final. The No. 3 seeded Rams were outscored 14-3 in the second quarter and trailed 33-16 at the half, and things did not improve for them in the second half as the Cardinals offense hit their full stride, handing their opponent a 72-35 loss and ending their season early.

FREMONT — Top-seeded Arlington proved too much for No. 11 Hardin Northern to handle, ending the Polar Bears season with a 61-24 victory in a Division IV boys basketball sectional final contest on Friday night.

WAPAKONETA — The Ridgemont girls basketball team overcame slow starts and got past two much bigger opponents in sectional play to earn a spot in the Division IV girls district tournament at Wapakoneta High School.

PAULDING — Trailing 26-12 to Napoleon at halftime, Kenton coach Ryan Miller challenged his team to respond just as it had done in previous games where it faced uphill climbs at the break.

FINDLAY — On Friday, Jaron Sharp and his teammates made four first quarter three-pointers as Kenton jumped out to a large first-quarter lead on Bath before hanging on over the final three quarters for a five-point win.
