Gophers’ Howland named NWCC’s POY

Ridgemont’s Priscilla Howland was selected as the Northwest Central Conference player of the year and three other Gophers received all-league recognition on the teams released on Wednesday. Howland, a senior who averaged 17.9 points and 9.2 rebounds per game this past season, has led the Gophers to a 16-8 mark and into the school’s first district tournament appearance since 1990.

CAREY — Near the end of the third quarter of the Division IV sectional semifinal between the New Riegel and Riverdale boys basketball teams, it appeared the result could be similar to the first meeting between the Blue Jackets and Falcons, a one-point New Riegel victory.

Raider trio advances to districts

ST. PARIS — Ben Logan had three wrestlers advance through sectional competition on Saturday to this week’s Division II district meet at Wilmington. Cole Houser won the 138-pound weight class at the Graham sectional, defeating Springfield Northwestern’s Jacob Lees 9-1 in the finals.
