Lady Gophers claim Parkway tourney title

ROCKFORD — It took double overtime, but the Ridgemont girls basketball team defeated Parkway 61-59 in the championship game of Chatt Insurance Holiday Tournament on Friday night. Faith Jenkins drained four three-pointers and had 14 points to lead the Gophers, who outscored the hosts 10-8 in the second overtime.

Dirksen leads ONU women by Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD — Junior Jenna Dirksen was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player as she led the No. 14-ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team to a 63-43 victory over Wittenberg on Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the Kiwanis Holiday Classic at Pam Evans Smith Arena.

USV boys pick up 6th win

WAYNESFIELD — Upper Scioto Valley got off to a fast start in pulling away for a 52-31 victory over Waynesfield-Goshen in a Northwest Central Conference boys basketball matchup on Saturday. The Rams, who received a game-high 15 points from Wayne Lowery, led 18-3 after one quarter and 29-10 by halftime before putting it in cruise control in the second half.

Vanlue shuts door on HN

DOLA — Looking for their first win of the season, the Hardin Northern boys basketball team was just four points out of the lead against Vanlue to start the fourth quarter on Friday night. But the Wildcats fended off the charging Polar Bears, outscoring the hosts 16-10 in the fourth to get the 57-47 win.

Second-half push helps Rams to 52-40 win over AE

WAYNESFIELD — After being tied at halftime, Upper Scioto Valley outscored Allen East 28-16 in the final two quarters to get the 52-40 boys basketball win in Friday’s Waynesfield-Goshen Holiday Tournament. The victory improves the Rams to 5-2 on the season, while the Mustangs drop to 2-5.

Ada falls to W-G 62-56

WAYNESFIELD — A 17-point game-high effort from Ethan Swaney wasn’t quite enough to lift Ada over the hosts of Friday’s Waynesfield-Goshen Holiday Tournament, as the Tigers edged out the Bulldogs 62-56. The loss drops the Ada boys to 2-6 on the season, while the Tigers pick up their first win and sit at 1-6.
