Bulldogs’ Sumner, Conley receive Division VI first team All-State honors

Four area football players received recognition on the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association Division IV and VI All-Ohio football teams that were released this week. Ada quarterback Seth Conley and his top receiver Chase Sumner both received first team recognition in Division VI, while Kenton linebacker Shawn Conover was voted to the third team in Division IV and Ben Logan receiver Grant Ward was selected honorable mention in Division IV.

Fast start propels Lady ‘Cats past LCC in season opener

With an early spark from its defense and a hot hand from beyond the three-point arc, the Kenton girls basketball team got its season off to a quick start on Saturday night. The Lady Wildcats forced visiting Lima Central Catholic into turnovers on seven of its first eight possessions and opened the game with an 11-0 run on the way to a 54-37 victory.

MOUNT VICTORY — The host Ridgemont girls have not won their season-opening tournament in either of the first two years they have hosted it. The Lady Gophers made sure to at least give themselves a chance to go after the title in their third year as they jumped out to a 29-6 lead after one quarter and never looked back on the way to a 77-30 victory over Ridgedale in the semifinals of the Ridgemont Girls Basketball Tournament on Friday night.

Carey makes quick work of Lady Falcons

CAREY — There wasn’t much doubt which team would win after a dominant first half in the opening game of Carey’s girls basketball season against Riverdale. The Blue Devils led by 38 points at halftime and would go on to defeat Riverdale 85-44 in a non-conferance match-up.

Spencerville cruises past Hardin Northern

DOLA — Ashton Dye had a game-high 24 points for the Hardin Northern girls basketball team in the Polar Bears season-opener on Friday night. Unfortunately for the Polar Bears it wasn’t enough as Spencerville jumped ahead by 20 points by halftime on the way to a 66-36 win in season-opening action.

Area girls tip off hoop slate tonight

Winter is still four weeks away, but the winter sports season gets under way as the area girls basketball season tips off this weekend. Ridgemont will host its second season-opening tournament tonight as the Lady Gophers will play Ridgedale at 6 p.m., with Ben Logan and Elgin to play in the second game at approximately 8 p.m.
