Kenton sophomore Hannah Holland received first-team recognition as the Wildcats placed three players on the All-Western Buckeye League girls soccer team. Holland, who scored 17 goals this season, helped the Wildcats to a program best 7-6-3 mark this season.

DEFIANCE — When a soccer match gets to a penalty kick shootout, it becomes a guessing game for the goalkeepers. On Tuesday night, Defiance keeper Teyah Castillo guessed correctly once more than Kenton keeper Alivia Purtee and that was exactly the number the Bulldogs needed as they edged Kenton 1-0 in a shootout in sectional semifinal play.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The seeders acknowledged Riverdale’s tough boys soccer schedule with a home sectional game. Visiting Mansfield St. Peter’s proved the Falcons still have some things to learn.

BROOKVILLE — The Benjamin Logan volleyball team picked up its first tournament win of the postseason Tuesday night beating Carlisle in straight sets 25-6, 25-10, 25-7. The Raiders were led by a host of players.

Last fall, a sophomore-laden Kenton boys soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to Elida in the Wildcat program’s first-ever home sectional tournament game at Merold Field. That loss proved to be a pivotal point in the young Wildcats’ development as they used it as a rallying cry for a 2017 campaign that evolved into the best regular season in program history with 14 wins and a second place finish in the Western Buckeye League.

SPRINGFIELD — Kenton Ridge defeated Ben Logan 3-0 in Division II sectional soccer action on Tuesday night.

DOLA — Leading two sets to one but trailing 9-7 to Old Fort in the fourth set, the Hardin Northern girls reached down and found a little something extra. The Lady Polar Bears went on to surrender just eight more points to take the set 25-17 and advance from Monday’s first round of the Division IV sectional tournament by defeating the Stockaders 25-17, 22-25, 25-15, 25-17.

ADA — While the Ada volleyball team may have felt a little out of sorts prior to its sectional tournament opener against Lima Temple Christian on Monday night, the Bulldogs were anything but that on the court.

CAREY — The Carey Blue Devils dominated the Riverdale Falcons in Division IV first round tournament volleyball action Monday night. Carey never trailed in the match, beating the Falcons, 25-6, 25-9, 25-13.
