ADA — Junior Nate Burger scored a career-high 22 points in a losing effort as the Ohio Northern men's basketball team, fell to visiting Wisconsin-Whitewater 87-72 on Saturday afternoon.

MOUNT VICTORY — Ridgemont girls basketball coach Tim Weyant couldn’t have asked for a much better start to the season than he got from his team Friday night. The Gophers outscored Ridgedale 20-5 over the first six minutes of the season-opener for both teams and went on to a 67-58 victory.

SPENCERVILLE — Spencerville outscored Hardin Northern by seven points in the third quarter on the way to a 53-48 victory over Hardin Northern in season-opening girls basketball action Friday night.

Hanna Legge has been working toward earning a college softball scholarship for a long time. All that work paid off recently as the Kenton High School senior signed a national letter of intent to play next year at Urbana University.

Several area high schools are in action as the girls basketball season tips off tonight and Saturday. Ridgemont begins the 2016-17 season at home tonight as it hosts Ridgedale in the second game of a season-opening tournament at 8 p.m. Fairbanks and Elgin will play in the first game of the night at 6 p.m.

ADA — Britt Lauck poured in a team-high 20 points and added a career-best eight assists as the No. 23-ranked Ohio Northern women defeated Defiance 82-58 on Tuesday. The Polar Bears improve to 4-0 overall, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-2.

With the regular season starting this weekend, Ridgemont and Kenton got together for a final girls basketball scrimmage Tuesday night.

ADA — Senior Konnor Baker and junior Nate Burger scored 17 points each as the Ohio Northern men's basketball team picked up its first win of the coach Rich Bensman era with a 93-51 victory over Defiance on Tuesday.

MOUNT VICTORY — The Trophy Bassmasters bass club held its annual awards banquet on recently at The Plaza Inn. Following a buffet meal, outgoing President Don Kraft presented John Clark and Boyd Downey with the 2016 Angler of the Year title as they tied for the trophy with 295 points each.

ADA — Nate Burger scored 19 points to lead the Ohio Northern men's basketball team in an 85-73 loss to Denison on Saturday afternoon. Burger led four Polar Bears in double figures in scoring.
