ONU men cruise to 20-6 win over Cougars

ADA — Max Weese scored six goals and Steven Slagle had three goals and five assists to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team to a 20-6 victory over Concordia (Ill.) on Saturday evening at Dial-Roberson Stadium. The Polar Bears improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 0-2.

Raiders plan winter sports banquet

BELLEFONTAINE — The Benjamin Logan High School Athletic Department is hosting a winter sports banquet to honor the athletes who participated in basketball, bowling, cheerleading and wrestling on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the high school commons. Cake and punch will be provided. Friends and family are invited to attend.

COLUMBUS — Chase Sumner will be a state placer in Division III at 132 pounds. The Ada sophomore stayed in contention with a consolation pin Thursday after losing his first match in the state wrestling tournament. Friday, he again was the aggressor in a 7-2 decision over Oak Harbor's Dylan Mansor to clinch a podium spot.

COLUMBUS — In his own words, Ada’s Chase Sumner “wasn’t himself” in his first state wrestling tournament match. He certainly was in his second match Thursday. After losing an 8-3 decision against Rootstown’s Brad Trescott in his first-round bout, Sumner controlled the action all the way through during his consolation match, pinning Newcomerstown’s Dylan Little in the third period.

Holderman leads all-district selections

Riverdale’s Sydney Holderman was a second-team All-Northwest District selection in Division III to lead all area players on the teams released Thursday evening. Upper Scioto Valley’s Emily Patton was a third-team honoree in Division IV.
