Youth wrestling: March 1, 2016

DAYTON — The Kenton Youth Wrestling team had two champions Sunday at the Miami Valley Kids Wrestling Association League Championships held at the Nutter Center. Anthony Hunt and Isaiah Mundy both went 3-0 to capture first place in their groups.

Masonic pool: March 1, 2016

The Black team defeated the White team by six points in Masonic Pool, cutting the White team’s lead to 17 points in the tournament after play on Feb. 25. High runs were had by Gene Cook (83, 71), Murrell Pryor (81, 79, 42), Chris Rogers (68, 47, 41), Don Dearing (61), Jeff Brown (45), Keith McKee (42, 41) and Russ Blue (41).

ADA — Steven Slagle scored two goals and dished out six assists to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team to a dominant 19-4 victory over Franciscan in ONU's inaugural varsity contest on Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

BL’s Houser moves on to state tourney

WILMINGTON — Ben Logan sophomore Cole Houser needed to win one match Saturday to qualify for the Division II state wrestling tournament. After dropping his semifinal match to Graham’s Jordan Crace at 106 pounds, Houser rebounded and got a win in the consolation semifinals.

Kenton struggles at district wrestling

FOSTORIA — Kenton had a tough day Saturday at the Division II district wrestling tournament in Fostoria. Sophomore C.J. Cook and senior Tobias Mendoza went a combined 0-4 as both fell short of making state.

Defiance defense quiets Kenton

PAULDING — Kenton scored just two points in the opening quarter of its Division II boys basketball sectional final Friday night against No. 1 seeded Defiance. The quarter set the tone for the remainder of the game as the Bulldogs cruised to a 67-46 win, ending the Wildcats’ season.

Gray makes podium in state swim meet

CANTON — Mission accomplished. That is the feeling Kenton High School senior Mo Gray left the Division II Ohio Swimming Championships with after swimming to a fifth-place finish and a spot on the podium in the 100-yard breaststroke Friday night.

Fort Recovery runs past USV

HARROD — Fort Recovery went on a big run midway through the second quarter to take a 15-point lead over Upper Scioto Valley and didn’t let the Rams get closer than eight the rest of way Friday in a Division IV boys basketball sectional final.
