ST. MARYS — Kenton’s day got off to a rough start Saturday at the Western Buckeye League wrestling tournament when the Wildcats found out that two of their top wrestlers would not be competing for a WBL title.

Kenton and Elida battled point for point for the first eight minutes of their Western Buckeye League basketball battle on Friday night. The visiting Bulldogs drilled three consecutive 3-pointers to jump-start a 14-0 run to open the second quarter and were in control the rest of the way as Elida cruised to a 57-44 victory.

Hardin Northern falls to Tigers in overtime

DOLA — After going more than three years without a conference win, Hardin Northern seemed poised to get its second conference victory in a week Friday. The Polar Bears led Waynesfield-Goshen by a dozen points heading into the fourth quarter, but things did not go Hardin Northern’s way from there.

Rams grab easy home victory, 62-45

MCGUFFEY — Chase Rose and Wayne Lowery had 18 points each and Upper Scioto Valley outscored Riverside in all four quarters on the way to a 62-45 Northwest Central Conference victory over the Pirates on Friday.

Ada can’t overcome early hole in loss

ADA — Bluffton scored the first 11 points Friday night and went on to defeat Ada 41-27 in Northwest Conference boys basketball. The Bulldogs (9-9) responded with a 7-0 run to close the quarter, but could not overcome the Pirates, who led 15-11 at halftime before outscoring Ada 26-16 over the final 16 minutes.

Liberty-Benton cruises by Riverdale

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Liberty-Benton made 30-of-56 shots from the field in a 73-39 win over Riverdale on Friday. The Eagles (13-4 overall, 8-1 Blanchard Valley Conference) led 16-10 after the first quarter, 42-22 at halftime and 63-33 at the end of the third quarter.

Raiders topped at home by Urbana in CBC clash

BELLEFONTAINE — Urbana outscored Ben Logan by 25 points in the first half on the way to a 58-38 victory over the host Raiders in Central Buckeye Conference play Friday night. The Raiders, who trailed 15-8 after one quarter and 39-15 by halftime, were paced by Grant Ricketts’ 14 points. Nolan Robson and Austin VanBuskirk added 7 each.
