RAWSON — Hardin Northern scored 21 of 23 first-quarter points Tuesday and cruised to a 67-18 victory over Cory-Rawson in nonconference girls basketball. The Polar Bears (7-5) held the Hornets scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Urbana pulls away from Raiders, 73-43

URBANA — Urbana dominated the second quarter Tuesday night to pull away from Ben Logan in Central Buckeye Conference Mad River Division boys basketball. The Hillclimbers turned a five-point lead after the first quarter into a 37-14 halftime advantage and went on to win 73-43.

Kenton youth wrestlers perform well at meet

OTTAWA — The Kenton Youth Wrestling team had six boys place first Sunday in a MVKWA meet. Ty Coomes went 3-0 with three pins in the 8-9-year-old, 89-pound division. Jayden Mustain also pinned all three of his opponents on his way to the title at 52 pounds in the 7-year-old division.

ADA — For more than 23 minutes of Monday’s nonconference girls basketball game, Lima Perry outscored Ada 35-31. Fortunately for the Bulldogs, they went on two runs that combined for a 23-0 advantage over 8:30 on the way to a 54-35 victory.

ADA — Ada girls basketball coach Bill Taflinger felt pretty comfortable with where his team was late in the third quarter. The Bulldogs trailed by one, were sitting in a zone and Kenton was using a methodical pace on offense.

McGUFFEY — When Upper Scioto Valley hosted Ben Logan on Saturday night, the Rams hadn’t played a game in 11 days. Any concerns about rust were quickly eliminated as the Rams – behind the post tandem of Chase Rose and Trevor Dotson – dominated the contest from the second quarter on and powered past the Raiders 72-44 in the non-league contest.

Defense leads Falcons to win over Mohawk

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Coming off a pair of losses in Wapakoneta, the Riverdale girls basktball team got back to its bread and butter. The Falcons shook off the rust from last week’s holiday tournament with a resolute defensive effort in a 62-42 win against Mohawk on Saturday.

DOLA — Hardin Northern outscored Vanlue by 10 points in the fourth quarter Saturday to pull away for a 67-49 victory in nonconference boys basketball. After an even first quarter, the Polar Bears led 27-22 at halftime and 48-40 after three quarters.
