It wasn’t picture perfect, but the Kenton High School football team got it’s homecoming job done on Friday night. The Wildcats were able to hold off a late Shawnee drive to preserve a 21-14 Western Buckeye League victory on a cold and rainy homecoming night at Robinson Field.

McGUFFEY — Upper Scioto Valley seemed to be able to do whatever it wanted offensively and it kept the ball away from Lima Perry on Friday night in a 45-0 Northwest Central Conference football victory. “I’m very happy with the way our team played,” USV head coach Josh Spencer said.

DOLA — Hardin Northern held a lead over Ridgemont for all but five minutes and 48 seconds of its homecoming game, but it was the visiting Golden Gophers who had the lead when it mattered most – the end. The win lifts the Gophers to 2-4 overall, 1-2 in the Northwest Central Conference. The Polar Bears fall to 3-3, also 1-2 in the NWCC.

CONVOY — Ada was outgained by more than 130 yards Friday night, but still managed to beat Crestview 14-13 in Northwest Conference football.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — North Baltimore came into Riverdale on Friday night looking to spoil the school’s homecoming celebrations, and it did just that. It was a strong defensive showing by the Tigers coupled with too many offensive mistakes by the Falcons that resulted in a 23-6 final score.

SPRINGFIELD — Josh Whitten had 14 receptions for 153 yards with scoring receptions of 28 and 3 yards as Ben Logan crushed Springfield Northwestern 38-3.

LIMA — Having experience doesn’t always translate to success and being inexperienced isn’t always a problem. That’s the lesson a pair of Hardin County doubles teams proved Thursday at a Division II sectional girls tennis tournament at the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima.

Kenton girls soccer coach Tyson Porter was full of praise for his team Thursday night following a 5-2 Western Buckeye League loss to Elida. “I was super proud of my girls,” Porter said. “We did so many positive things. We passed the ball well. We looked good in our formation. The defense was stellar. We clogged up the middle. We produced.

DOLA — Hardin Northern defeated Upper Scioto Valley in four games Thursday in Northwest Central Conference volleyball. The Polar Bears (11-6, 4-1 NWCC) won 25-23, 25-27, 25-19, 25-15.

OTTAWA — Tough playing conditions Thursday at the Division II sectional golf meet at Country Acres didn’t seem to bother Kenton senior Anthony McKee. McKee was the only player out of 60 to shoot less than 80 as his round off 77 earned him medalist honors and helped Kenton advance to the district meet as a team with a second-place finish.
