Strong 2nd half pushes Falcons to victory

RAWSON — After a scoreless first half, Riverdale scored four second-half goals to defeat Cory-Rawson 4-0 in girls soccer action Wednesday. Gabi Rodriguez scored the opening goal 2:44 after halftime off an assist by Brooke McKamey.

Raiders topped on road

SPRINGFIELD — The Benjamin Logan boys soccer team lost 5-1 at Kenton Ridge Wednesday night. Benjamin Logan’s Julian Cain scored off an Aaron Pennington assist for the lone Raider goal.

Riverdale gets win in sweep

VANLUE — Riverdale downed Vanlue in three sets, 25-12, 25-12, 25-10, Wednesday in a Blanchard Valley Conference volleyball match. Arahea Dodge helped lead the Falcons (5-3, 3-1 BVC) with five kills, a block and an ace.

KHS grad Derek Deardorff embracing chance to coach football at Hawaii

When the University of Hawaii football team came to Columbus for last Saturday’s game against Ohio State, one member of the Rainbow Warrior coaching staff was back on familiar turf. Derek Deardorff, a 2005 Kenton High School graduate who was an integral part of the 2004 Wildcats Division III runner-up team, was on the Rainbow Warriors sidelines as a graduate assistant coach, working with wide receivers and quarterbacks.

BELLEFONTAINE — The Ben Logan girls soccer squad fell 1-0 to Kenton Ridge Wednesday night at Ben Logan High School. The Raiders will be back in action on Monday at Bellefontaine.

The Kenton boys soccer team had a bad taste in its mouth from its game last Thursday. The Wildcats were tied with Wapakoneta 1-1 with 20 minutes to go before the Redskins scored five goals in a 12-minute stretch to win 6-1.

Kenton girls grab 2nd at invite

ELIDA — The Kenton girls placed second out of eight teams Tuesday at the Elida Invitational cross country meet. Carrie Morris led the way for the Wildcats, placing ninth out of 49 runners.

Riverside bests USV

HARROD — Riverside topped Upper Scioto Valley 185-191 in boys golf Monday at Colonial Hills. Brady Hipsher shot 44 to lead the Rams.

Ada’s James wins deciding match

VAN WERT — With the match tied 2-2, Ada senior Alex James was the only member of the Bulldog girls tennis team still playing Tuesday night. James emerged with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Emma Verville at third singles to give Ada a 3-2 victory over Van Wert.

Falcons dominant in 6-0 road victory

RAWSON — Five different players scored goals as Riverdale rolled to a 6-0 victory in a boys North Central Ohio Soccer Association match Tuesday. Joe Lauck had a pair of second-half goals for the Falcons (2-2-2, 1-0-1 NCOSA).
