Falcons win easily, but need to improve

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale was not very sharp Saturday in its girls soccer opener. That didn’t have much impact on the outcome – a 4-0 win over Continental – but Falcons coach Andrew Snook said his team needs to improve.

Polar Bears dominate in football season opener

BEALLSVILLE — It wasn’t the opponent Hardin Northern expected to open its season against and the bus ride was much longer than the Polar Bears wanted, but the result was a good one. Hardin Northern cruised to a 54-8 victory over Beallsville on Saturday in its football season opener.

Kenton wins late

UPPER SANDUSKY — Landon Bartlett scored on a penalty kick with 3:28 remaining to help Kenton complete a comeback from two goals down in a 3-2 boys soccer victory against Upper Sandusky on Saturday. Max Pirch scored the tying goal only two minutes earlier on an assist by Luis Villa.

Riegle nets five as Falcons get year’s 1st boys soccer win

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Justin Riegle scored five goals and assisted on the other as the Riverdale boys soccer team picked up its first victory of the season, 6-3, against Miller City on Saturday night. Riegle scored three times in the first half to give the Falcons (1-1-1) a 3-0 lead, but it was not until he scored two more late goals that Riverdale put it away.

Rams split pair

McGUFFEY — Upper Scioto Valley split a pair of volleyball matches Saturday. The Rams defeated Continental 25-22, 25-21.

Polar Bears edged

PANDORA — Hardin Northern was edged on the road Saturday in nonconference volleyball with Pandora-Gilboa topping the Polar Bears 23-25, 25-15, 25-22, 23-25, 15-13. Shelby Alloway led Hardin Northern with 15 kills and 29 digs.

Bulldog girls draw

ADA — Ada scored a late equalizer Saturday to earn a 1-1 home girls soccer draw against Marion Harding. Harding took the lead 15 minutes into the game on a shot from outside the 18-yard box by Marlena Stinson.

Falcon volleyball tops Bucyrus in five sets

BUCYRUS — Riverdale and Bucyrus alternated sets, but the Falcons won first and last in a 25-22, 16-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-9 victory against the Redmen on Saturday. Araeha Dodge had 10 kills on 29-of-32 hitting, and Carrol Pauley was 33-of-34 hitting with eight kills.
