Five-run 8th inning lifts VB over Riverdale

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Van Buren scored five times in the top of the eighth inning on the way to an 11-6 Blanchard Valley Conference baseball victory over Riverdale on Monday afternoon. The Falcons, who fall to 7-8 on the season and 2-5 in the BVC, rallied twice from two-run deficits to tie the game, scoring two in the bottom of the sixth to knot the score at 4-4 and two more times in the bottom of the seventh to make it 6-6.

Perry ousts USV softball

LIMA — Host Perry rallied with three runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth on the way to a 6-3 Division IV sectional softball victory over Upper Scioto Valley on Monday afternoon. Trailing 1-0 after three innings, USV scored all three of its runs in the fourth frame including two which came on RBI singles by Megan Dunifon and Emma Hunsicker.

S’ville outhits Ada

SPENCERVILLE — Spencerville scattered single runs over four innings on the way to a 4-1 victory over Ada in Northwest Conference baseball action on Monday afternoon. The host Bearcats scored in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings on the way to the victory.

SPRINGFIELD — The Benjamin Logan Middle School boys won the Central Buckeye Conference track meet at Northwestern on Monday night with 120.5 points. Finishing first for the Raiders were Hunter Lattimer in the 200 hurdles (28.42 seconds) and long jump (17-0) and Wyatt Smith in the pole vault (9-6”).

Ben Logan receives a top-seed for BB tourney

Ben Logan was the only area baseball team to earn a No. 1 seed in the district tournament draws that were released on Sunday. The Raiders, 15-3 on the season, took a first-round bye and will host either Graham or Springfield Northwestern in their sectional opener at 5 p.m. May 16. The winner advances to district semifinal play at Urbana at 5 p.m. May 21. Graham and Northwestern play each other at 5 p.m. May 14 at Northwestern.

5th Polar Bear Legacy Golf Outing announced

The 5th annual Polar Bear Legacy Golf Outing is planned Saturday, July 6 at Veterans Memorial Park Golf Course, Kenton. The four-person scramble will tee off at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $50 per person and the event will be limited to the first 25 teams to register. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. that day. The rain date is Sunday, July 7 at 1 p.m.
