The Hardin County Farm Bureau held its first ATV Tour in the southwest corner of the county on Saturday, Sept. 26. Nearly 50 Farm Bureau members enjoyed the beautiful weather while being led down back country roads by sherriff’s escort in Marion Township, Roundhead Township, and McDonald Township.

On Sunday, Sept. 20, 8 FFA members went to Camp Wesley to help serve food for anybody that came from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

During the month of August, Extension volunteer rainfall reporters received an average of 2.50 inches of rain. The most rain for this month, 3.90 inches, fell in Hale Township as measured by Tim Ramsey.

COLUMBUS – Roger Rennekamp, the associate dean for Outreach and Engagement at Oregon State University, has been named the next director of Ohio State University Extension. Bruce A. McPheron, Ohio State’s vice president for agricultural administration and dean of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, made the announcement today at the Farm Science Review, a three-day educational and trade show offered by the college that attracts about 130,000 people annually.

COLUMBUS — Beef cattle producers who want boost their profit potential and become more competitive in the cattle industry can learn how by attending the 2016 Ohio Beef Cattle School series Jan. 19, Feb. 2 and 16, taught by experts from Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.

The Hardin County Carcass Show of Champions was held Tuesday, Sept. 15 at Mt. Victory Meats. A group of adults and young people were on hand to hear judge and OSU Assistant Professor of Meat Science Lyda Garcia and OSU Meats Judging Coach Trey Garza discuss the merits of the winning animal carcasses from the 2015 Hardin County Fair.

COLUMBUS -- Water quality will be the focus of a Sept. 22 panel presentation of economists and researchers with the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University, who will discuss programs and practices designed to lessen the potential of farm runoff into region’s waterways.

The Hardin County Master Gardeners will have a plant sale this Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Ada Harvest and Herb Festival. The Master Gardeners will be selling starts from the daylilies growing at the Friendship Garden.

FINDLAY — The Hancock Historical Museum will host its third annual Historic Barn Tour on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 10 a,m. to 4 p.m. The self-guided tour will showcase seven historic barns in western Hancock County, dating from c.1850s-1920s.
