FOREST — Red Cross Home Fire Preparedness Campaign teams will be installing smoke alarms in homes in Forest on Saturday, April 22.

It is part of a nationwide campaign to reduce the number of deaths and injuries due to home fires by 25 percent by 2019.

In partnership with the Forest Fire Department and the Forest Community Improvement Corporation, volunteer teams will be going door to door in the village to install smoke alarms in homes that need them and teach people about what to do in case a fire breaks out in their home.

Volunteers will meet at VFW Post 1182, 204 E. Lima St. in Forest at 9 a.m. for training and team assignments before starting door-to-door canvassing and installation.

Food and beverages will be provided. Anyone interested in volunteering can call the Red Cross at 419-422-9322 or contact Volunteer Specialist Mike Vance at Michael.vance@redcross.org.

In the North Central Ohio Chapter, which includes Hardin County, the Red Cross has installed more than 1,000 free smoke alarms.
