McGUFFEY — The leader of the Upper Scioto Valley teachers’ union questioned the board Monday night about its decision to bring in a new superintendent while still keeping current superintendent Dennis Recker on the payroll.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The Riverdale Education Foundation’s recent silent auction proved a huge success, according to foundation president Jeff Knedler. Thanks to students, teachers, staff and local businesses, the auction raised $1,836. Knedler said some of the money will go right back to the teachers in the form of grants in May.

The Kenton Lions Club met Wednesday, Feb. 17 at Henry’s Restaurant at 6:30 p.m. Nine members and four guests were in attendance.

Ohio Senate President Keith Faber will be the featured speaker at the Hardin County Republican Party’s Lincoln Day Dinner on Sunday, March 6. It will be held at the Plaza Inn in Mount Victory. Social time will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m.

LIMA — Upper Scioto Valley built an early lead Saturday and maintained it for the first half over Lima Central Catholic in a Division IV girls basketball sectional final. But it was the way Rams started the second half that turned the contest into a blowout.

LIMA — Haley Wyss couldn’t miss in the first half Saturday. The Ada junior shot 6-of-6 from the 3-point line in the first 12:15 of a girls basketball sectional final against top-seeded Minster. As a team, the Bulldogs shot 11-of-15 through the first 13 minutes and built a 10-point lead late in the second quarter.

NEW CARLISLE — The Ben Logan girls basketball team won 21 games going into Saturday’s sectional final contest against Kenton Ridge. Despite a valiant effort, the fourth-seeded Lady Raiders weren’t able to make enough plays down the stretch to secure the 22nd win needed to continue their season as they fell to the third-seeded Cougars 58-55.
