The 70th class reunion of the Kenton High School class of 1947 met at Henry’s on Aug. 19 for lunch at noon. Pictures were taken, Marilyn (Blue) Oborn gave a memorial on “A Lamp Upon My Feet” after which Mae (Heilman) Frost returned thanks. A delicious lunch was served from the menu.

The 83rd Switzer reunion was held Sunday, Aug. 20. A potluck lunch was held at 1 p.m. at Gormley Park, Forest. Thirty-eight family members were present. Guests were Robin Williams from Bettsville, Bill Newman from Dola, Ashley Cydrus from Springfield and Erin McDemott from Carey.

The 54th annual W.W. Long reunion was held Sunday, Aug. 27 at the home of Russell Cahill with approximately 30 members present. It was a beautiful day and everyone enjoyed being together.

Stefnay L. Dick, 333 W. Railroad St., reported that someone entered her vehicle overnight and removed spare change. She noted that the car doors were locked.

The first phase in development of the Warriors First improvements at Saulisberry Park continued on Wednesday morning with the pouring of the concrete for a fire ring. Located just west of the office building at the park, the area offers visitors an opportunity to enjoy the solitude and peace of the France Lake, said the Rev. Scott Johnson.

The Kenton Elks 157 will be honoring “Our God, Our Hardin County Veterans and Hardin County Service Men and Women” at the 2017 Hardin County Fair’s Veterans Appreciation Day on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the shelterhouse. The songs being performed will be: “America, America,” “Patriotic Medley” (America, the Beautiful/My Country, Tis of Thee), “From Shore to Shore,” …

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a sobriety check point from 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2 to 1 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 3. It will be located on South Main Street in Kenton.

ADA — The Ohio Northern Symphony is expanding its scope to reach members of the regional community and provide opportunities for talented musicians to play in an orchestra. There are openings for all string instruments, oboe, horn and trombone performers.

When Ashland University travels to Indiana, Pa., tonight to kick off its football season, the Eagle lineup will be dotted with the words Kenton, Ohio, after several names at various positions on the field. Former Kenton High School standouts Travis and Trevor Downing and Tristan Reichelderfer all are hoping to make significant contributions to the Eagles success this fall after waiting their turn to see playing time the last couple seasons.

After a strong finish last week against Coldwater in which the Kenton football team fell a Hail Mary short of rallying to at least have a chance to tie the game, the Wildcats are looking to get into the win column when they travel to Celina for their Western Buckeye League opener on Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p .m.
