The Hardin County Agricultural Society held its annual meeting with President Howard Lyle presiding on Saturday, Nov. 5. Eighteen directors along with 17 Hardin County Agricultural Society members were present.

The Hardin County Agricultural Society met Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Hardin County Fairgrounds for its regular October meeting. Eighteen directors were and 15 guests were present. Howard Lyle, president, called the meeting to order.

Members of the Hardin County Fair Board are looking into a project to re-paint the fairgrounds’ grandstand and asked the Hardin County Commissioners on Thursday if they’d be interested in contributing to the effort.

The Hardin County Carcass Show of Champions was held Thursday, Sept. 15 at Mt. Victory Meats. A group of adults and young people were on hand to hear judge and OSU Assistant Professor of Meat Science Lyda Garcia discuss the merits of the winning animal carcasses from the 2016 Hardin County Fair.

For the first time in several decades, Hardin County Veterans Services will not have a booth at the county fair. Officially, the reason for not sponsoring the booth is financial, but veterans from area organizations see the decision as a slight to them and an example of decreasing services.

Hardin County exhibitors at the Ohio State Fair had success in the rabbit contest this year.

Hardin County Fair season and membership tickets will go on sale all over the county this week. Either ticket sells for $20. These tickets will allow one adult and that person’s school age children accompanied by the person free admission to the fair each day of the fair. The Hardin County Agricultural Society approved a contractor to build a new show building which members hope will be available for this year’s fair. Members met Saturday at the Hardin County Fairgrounds with fifteen directors and 14 guests present.

Concerns regarding draft horses were raised at Saturday’s meeting of the Hardin County Agricultural Society. Earnie Kearns said he doesn't like the idea of the draft horses being housed in the Goshen Barn, rather than a tent.
