FOREST — Matt Missey is an artist, but he doesn’t work with water colors or clay. His creations are tree sculptures. Over his career, Missey said, he has formed trees into images of wildlife, historical figures and lighthouses, but the piece he was putting the finishing touches on this week is unique.

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office named its state-of-the-art training and meeting room after a man who was the driving force in developing the former Army Reserve Post into the Jacob Parrott Safety Center. Russell Ludwig was one of the three county commissioners, along with Gerald Potter and the late Jerry Cross, who were seated when the U.S. Army announced the reserve center on South Main Street in Kenton was to be closed.

Upper Scioto Valley senior Alexis Christon is presented a certificate by Superintendent Mike Kis during Monday night’s board of education meeting. Christon was named the recipient of the Hardin County Franklin B. Walters Scholarship Award for her academic accomplishments.

Two people from Indiana were killed Sunday night when their car went left of center and struck an oncoming pickup truck in southwestern Hardin County. According to a press release from the Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart’s Office, the call came into the office at 9:44 p.m. regarding an accident on Ohio 117 where it joins with Ohio 67.

Jon Husted said it is the common values he shares with Mike DeWine that brought them together on the same Republican ticket in the May primary. Both Husted, the current Ohio Secretary of State, and DeWine, the Ohio Attorney General, were running for governor.

The Kenton High School gymnasium floor and stands were packed to the brim on Saturday during the Division V, VI and VII state powerlifting meet, which saw students athletes from high schools all across Ohio representing their schools.
