Tuesday was the coldest day of 2018 so far and members of the Amish community could be found taking advantage of the bumper crop of ice available. Several were reported throughout the southern portion of the county cutting through the thick ice and hauling it to their insulated buildings for storage when temperatures climb back to normal in the spring.

DOLA — Pandora-Gilboa outscored Hardin Northern in all four quarters on the way to a 33-28 victory over Hardin Northern in non-league girls basketball action on Tuesday night. The Rockets led 11-9 after eight minutes before outscoring the Polar Bears by a single point in each of the next three quarters.

Vanlue shuts door on HN

DOLA — Looking for their first win of the season, the Hardin Northern boys basketball team was just four points out of the lead against Vanlue to start the fourth quarter on Friday night. But the Wildcats fended off the charging Polar Bears, outscoring the hosts 16-10 in the fourth to get the 57-47 win.
