The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is an organization which traces its roots to the Civil War nationally with hands in establishing the ROTC program and Memorial Day celebrations.

For Siobhonne Ward, serving as a Hardin County assistant prosecutor is her way of giving back to the community that helped her. Ward is a “hometown girl,” still living in Kenton where she grew up and went to school.

For the past 28 years, the nurses and staff at Hardin County Hospice have assisted grieving families as they faced the final days of their loved ones’ lives. Now they find themselves going through the grieving process for their agency as they pack up records and close down the office for their impending closing.

There has been much progress made this school year in addressing the training of students to enter the work force. Those first steps will be taking a leap when classes throughout Hardin County start next fall.

McGUFFEY — The students at Upper Scioto Valley were encouraged to seek out individuals who will give them positive guidance in their lives. The advice was offered by a former Ohio State University basketball standout who has devoted himself to the spiritual part of his life.

Two years ago, the pollution in Lake Erie shut down the water treatment plant for the city of Toledo and got national coverage by the news media. The source of the blooms of algae were attributed in part to the runoff of phosphorous from the application of fertilizer on farm fields.
