Despite the dreary conditions the people turned out in droves for the first Columbus Food Truck Fest and Chairs of Hope Auction on Friday night in downtown Kenton. Dealing with a light drizzle most of the time – though forecasts called for worse – area residents came prepared with their umbrellas and appetites.

In 1982, the Hardin County Extension Office was looking for a new family and consumer sciences agent every two years – or at least it seemed that way. When Southeast Ohio native Kathy Oliver interviewed for the position in November of that year, she promised five years here if given the position.

The number of dog cruelty and neglect cases in Hardin County is up this year and Dog Warden Tammy Ervin is not sure why that is the case. Within the last two weeks, she has taken in nine abused or neglected dogs at the Hardin County Dog Shelter.

An auction to help a local organization raise funds has mushroomed into a big community event in downtown Kenton on Friday night. “Eats on the Street,” which will run from 5 to 10 p.m., will feature six food trucks from Columbus serving a variety of food available in the capital city.
