The Kenton Elks honored the February Teenagers of the Month during a luncheon Thursday, Feb. 12. The students from five area schools were selected for their character, leadership, service, citizenship and scholarship. There were no students nominated from Hardin Northern.

A three-ton piece of history was purchased recently by a Hardin County native. The safe in the Erie Street Market in Toledo had made its home at the market for a century, but when the City of Toledo purchased the property, the safe and building were sold to the highest bidder. The purchaser was Charles Prater.

RIDGEWAY — June Titus was a junior at Ridgeway High School when she was handed a note from a senior boy. Dewey Ford was asking her to go with him to the Logan County Fair. She sent a message back saying she would like to go. Those handwritten notes began a relationship that was to make the couple inseparable for the next seven decades.

The last time a Hardin County history was published was more than 30 years ago. A group of volunteers is putting together an update which they hope to have available in time for this summer’s centennial celebration of the opening of the Hardin County Courthouse.

Kenton Full Gospel Church (KFGC) Pastor Anita VanBuskirk and secretary Barb Manns accompanied the West Ohio Food Bank to the Ohio Statehouse on Tuesday to share the experiences of the food pantry the church operates in Kenton.

For many years, a trip to Hardin Memorial Hospital’s emergency room meant sharing a common ward with curtains between the beds while the patient’s family jockeyed for a few chairs in a crowded waiting area outside. Those days are gone.
