COLUMBUS — Farmers prevented from planting a cash crop due to unrelenting rain can now sow a cover crop and still be eligible to receive some federal trade assistance. This aid is in addition to crop insurance payments on those acres.

COLUMBUS – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) is extending the prevented plant crop reporting deadline for Ohio producers affected by spring flooding and excessive moisture.

Many alfalfa and forage stands across the state took a beating this winter and the wet spring has added insult to injury. Forage stands were damaged this past winter, and the wet spring has further deteriorated stands that appeared they might recover. So what are the options to assuring a forage supply for the future?

An Arcadia man was apprehended by Kenton police officers following a car and foot chase on Thursday evening. The arrest of Zachary Spires wrapped up a case that started Wednesday evening with an alert from the Hancock County Sheriff's Office regarding a wanted subject and stolen firearms at a residence in Kenton, according to a release from Chief Dennis Musser.

ADA – The Patriotic Pops Concert, featuring the Lima Symphony Concert, at Ohio Northern University at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 6 will be moved indoors, to the ONU King-Horn Field House, due to the threat of thunderstorms. The concert is free and open to the public.

LaRUE — A grant from Mid-Ohio Energy Cooperative will help the LaRue Community Alliance in their efforts to mitigate flooding in the village of LaRue. The $8,000 grant will be used to purchase and install a custom check flow valve designed to reduce flooding on village streets as well as flood damage to surrounding properties.

Wednesday A suspicious vehicle was parked at Save-A-Lot. Two loose dogs were reported in the area of Decatur and Scioto streets.
