Gabriel C. Smith, Lima, was eastbound in the 1,000 block of W. Lima Street when a deer ran southbound into the roadway and into the path of the vehicle. Smith struck the deer, causing damage on the front driver’s side of the vehicle.

To the editor: I am writing to thank Hardin County residents for spreading joy to children around the world this Christmas. Through the generosity of the Hardin County community, the Lima Area Team collected 20,810 shoebox gifts for Operation Christmas Child, the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind.

Tuesday was the coldest day of 2018 so far and members of the Amish community could be found taking advantage of the bumper crop of ice available. Several were reported throughout the southern portion of the county cutting through the thick ice and hauling it to their insulated buildings for storage when temperatures climb back to normal in the spring.

ADA — Street and utility projects are planned in Ada this year, according to Village Administrator Jamie Hall. At the first council meeting of the year on Tuesday night, Hall informed members of the year’s two planned projects, Willeke Avenue Phase I and West Side Storm Sewer Phase II.

ADA — Councilman Don Fleming was chosen to lead the Ada Village Council as its president for 2018 during its reorganizational meeting on Tuesday night. All committee chairs and members will remain the same as 2017.

ADA —The Ohio 3rd District Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in two cases at Ohio Northern University’s Pettit College of Law at 10 a.m. on Jan. 9 in the Large Moot Court Room. The oral arguments will be held before a three-judge panel consisting of Judges Stephen R. Shaw, Vernon L. Preston, John R. Willamowski or William R. Zimmerman. Shaw, Willamowski and Zimmerman are Ohio Northern University law alumni.

The Hardin County Republican Central and Executive Committees will meet on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the party headquarters, 304 W. Franklin St., Kenton. The committees will have the opportunity to hear from House of Representative candidates Cheryl Buckland and Jon Cross.

The 2017 Annual Financial Report for the Hardin County Veterans Memorial Park District has been filed and is open to the public for viewing at the Hardin County Probate Court.
