The Lake of Lights Christmas Celebration continues at Kenton’s Saulisberry Park through Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. The lighting display has been expanded again this year with the support of several area businesses and other organizations.

News that a popular former priest at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kenton had taken his own life after being accused of “questionable” communications with a minor and misuse of church funds has been a shock to the people who knew him locally.

Five people will be interviewed next month for two openings on Kenton City Council, it was announced Thursday night at council’s final regular meeting for 2017. Teresa Styer is leaving her 1st Ward seat after representing the city’s southeast quadrant for the past six years.

A Ridgeway woman’s crusade to improve the intersection of two state highways continues. Brenda Zachary took her cause to the Hardin County commissioners on Thursday. Zachary is determined to have flashing lights on the stop signs at the crossing of Ohio 292 and 273 just north of Ridgeway, the site of a fatal accident in October which took the life of EMT Krista McDonald whose ambulance was broad-sided by a motorist who didn’t stop at the intersection.

Kenton City Council voted to participate with the Ohio Department of Transportation on three separate projects in the city during its meeting Thursday night. Kenton agreed to cooperate with ODOT on the first phase of the Safe Routes to School program, designed to improve safety for children heading to the Kenton schools.

A special Christmas greetings section featuring Santa’s response to children’s wish lists will be published as part of Saturday’s Kenton Times. The section also includes holiday greetings from area businesses.

FOREST —  Jackson Township Trustees reorganizational meeting will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 7 p.m. in the township building. The regular meeting normally held the third Tuesday of the month will be held Tuesday, January 23 at 7 p.m.

ADA — The Ada Public Library Board of Trustees will meet at 9 a.m. in the library on January 8 for its reorganization meeting. The regular January board meeting will follow.

Damage to a vehicle was reported at 353 Superior St. The department was called to 358 N. Wayne St. regarding threats.
