In 1890, a group of 19 Kenton residents got together to create a local Elks lodge. In the 125 years that followed, Lodge 157 has gone from a local gathering spot to a chapter known by members of the Elks throughout the nation.

About half of the Kenton customers who participate in the city’s electric aggregation program were overcharged the past eight months and will be receiving a credit or reimbursement. IGS Energy, which supplies electricity through the program, apologized for the billing error in a letter presented to City Council on Monday night.

Kenton City Council paid tribute to a former mayor at its meeting Monday night. Council conducted a moment of silence for Gary Ritzler, who served as Kenton’s mayor from 2004 to 2011. He died July 30 at the age of 72.

RIDGEWAY — The Ridgemont Board of Education took action Monday night at a special session to ensure classes will begin in the district on Sept. 15. Originally the starting date for Ridgemont was set at Aug. 24, but the construction work on the district’s new preK-12 facility is behind schedule, said Superintendent Emmy Beeson.

An injury accident involving a pickup truck and a semi early Monday morning on County Road 175 at Ohio 309 resulted in the injuries of two Kenton men.

Recently I received a phone call from the police department saying that they had my credit card. It had been turned in by a young lady that had found it in the shopping center parking lot.

First-year head band director Travis Wissman is aiming to instill a strong sense of respect, integrity and pride to the Kenton High School band. Wissman spent the previous two years as an assistant band director at the school where he got the opportunity to know the students, making for an easy transition.
