BELLEFONTAINE — Two Benjamin Logan students have been recognized for demonstrating outstanding college-level achievement through Advanced Placement courses and exams during the 2014-2015 school year. Katharine Adams, a 2015 graduate of Benjamin Logan, qualified for the College Board’s Advanced Placement Scholar Award by completing three or more AP exams with grades of 3 or higher.

It has deeply troubled me for quite some time to watch the deterioration of our country, and the decline of our morals and values. We now accept certain things as everyday common law and practice that we used to find abhorrent when done by other countries.

Terry P. Holbrook, 150 S. Walnut St., Dunkirk, was cited for driving under a suspended license. A dog was reported to be running loose in the 300 block of South High Street and the 300 block of Stevens Street.

The August board meeting of the Hardin Soil and Water Conservation District will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20 at the Hardin County Fairgrounds in Kenton. Future meetings will resume on the regular schedule of the third Thursday of each month at 7:30 a.m. at the district office.

A new math curriculum for Kenton grades K-6 was approved this morning during a special meeting of the school board. The adoption of Every Day Math cost $59,744.51 for the series of educational information, most of which is online, said Superintendent Jennifer Penczarski.

RIDGEWAY — The Ridgeway council was given an update on the latest economic development programs in Hardin County at its meeting Tuesday. Jon Cross, President and CEO of the Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance, told council the county’s unemployment rate is between four and five percent and there are indications the existing companies are planning to expand.

DOLA — Hardin Northern students in grades 7-12 may pick up their schedules on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 19, 20, 21, 24, 25 between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. or 1 and 3 p.m. Schedules can also be picked up during the open house on Aug. 24.

The Hardin County Humane Society will sponsor its 10th annual Poker Run for Animals on Saturday. All bikes or favorite vehicles are welcome to participate.

DUNKIRK — Bingo will be played at the Hardin Northern Community Center on Thursday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. There is no charge to play but donations are accepted.
