GAHANNA — AEP Ohio awarded a Rate Stabilization Program, Retention and Expansion Grant to International Paper that helped secure a 250,000 square foot expansion of the Kenton plant, doubling its manufacturing space. The facility is part of International Paper's Foodservice business, which manufactures fiber-based hot and cold cups, food buckets and containers, plates and lids for the foodservice industry.

Joshua Matino, 437 N. Wayne St., reported that his juvenile son was being threatened by an older juvenile. He also reported that the threatening juvenile had emptied his trash bags into his yard.

Mark Tice of Tice Construction levels out the wet concrete in the barn of the Hardin County Farm Museum. A group of volunteers, headed up by Sheena Striker, raised $15,700 to have the floor finished with Tice Construction also making a donation to the project.

Remembering exchange students who have studied at Kenton High School through the years just got easier thanks to a pair of exchange students from the 2014-15 school year. Flags representing most of the exchange students’ countries who have attended KHS are now featured in a display in the main hall.

Projects in the Kenton Municipal Building were the topic for City Council’s Finance Committee during its monthly meeting Monday night. Topping the discussion was fixing the leaking roof, then making repairs in the rest of the 24-year-old building.

RIDGEWAY — On Saturday, the Ridgeway firefighters hosted the fire attack trailer from the State Fire Marshal’s office. Five other fire departments – Quincy, Perry Twp. Richland Twp. Northern Hardin County and Rushcreek Twp. participated.

ALGER — Council members have volunteered to mow grass in Alger while the two workers in the village install water meters. The village was awarded a Community Development Block Grant to install water meters to each home and business in the community. To receive the money, the project must be completed and the water meters operational by Jan. 1.

ALGER — An early morning fire today in Alger has been called “suspicious” by local authorities and the State Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate. According to Alger Fire Chief Ethan Hunt, his department was called out about midnight to a fire at the house at 401 N. Front St.

A disturbance was reported at 723 W. Lima St., Lot 42. A non-injury accident was reported at the corner of N. High and Summit streets.
