The Hardin County Commissioners have proclaimed April Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month and Job and Family Services is planning activities throughout the month.

DOLA — Two errors in the bottom of the seventh inning allowed Dailyn Pees to cross the plate with the winning run as Hardin Northern edged Upper Scioto Valley 6-5 in a Northwest Central Conference baseball game on Tuesday.

DOLA — Hardin Northern plated five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 15=14 win over Upper Scioto Valley in a Northwest Central Conference softball game on Tuesday. With the score tied 3-3 after one inning, USV took the lead with four runs in the top of the top of the fourth inning and three more in the fifth before Hardin Northern scored seven in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game 10-10.

RIDGEWAY — Visiting Riverside plated a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning to nip Ridgemont 4-2 in a Northwest Central Conference baseball game on Tuesday afternoon. Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning the Gophers tied the game on a two-run double by Todd Hollinger.

RIDGEWAY — Riverside scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on the way to a 12-2 five-inning win over Ridgemont in a Northwest Central Conference softball contest on Tuesday afternoon. Kylie Turner, Emma Smith, Cassidy Knapp, Jackie Ramsey and Callie Cromer all had one hit to lead Ridgemont at the plate.

Erica Marie Smith and William Ethan Dean Shepherd of Kenton are announcing their engagement and upcoming marriage. Erica is the daughter of David and Pam Smith of Kenton and is a 2010 graduate of Kenton High School. She is a stay-at-home mom.

Christina Cross, coordinator of Wildcat Community Connectors at Kenton High School, spoke to the Kenton Rotary about the program at its March 26 meeting. The Wildcat Community Connectors (WCC) program is a semester-long, career skills (elective) course and internship program for KHS juniors and seniors.

Area schools were put on lockdown Monday as officials searched Monday for a man suspected in two stabbings in Arlington. Brandon Pinks was later taken into custody by Hardin County Sheriff’s deputies at a home in Cessna Township on Monday evening.

Mike Styer of Kenton received the Elks Distinguished Citizenship Award at the Kenton Elks 157 Lodge Ballroom on Saturday night. It was presented by Past Exalted Ruler Todd Daquino.
