MOUNT VICTORY — In his first few weeks on the job as a state representative, Jon Cross is already hearing the clock ticking. As a member of the finance committee and its transportation subcommittee, Cross and his colleagues must address a $1 billion gap in funding for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), send it on to the Senate and to Gov. Mike DeWine's desk before March 31.

TIFFIN — A pair of Upper Scioto Valley graduates helped their college track teams win indoor championships this past weekend. Former Ram Brittany Holbrook had a big weekend for Tiffin University winning the 200 meter dash and finishing second in the 60 meter dash to help the at the Dragons win the G-MAC Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships.

ATHENS — Kenton High School graduates Kaden Gilmore and Parker Rembis both competed on Saturday at the Drug Tested Raw Collegiate National Powerlifting event in Athens. In the 182-pound weight class, Gilmore’s final results were as follows: 501 pounds - squat; 292.1 pounds-bench press; 562.2 pounds - deadlift. He broke the state record with his 501 pound squat.

The Kenton boys third grade boys basketball team won their tournament on Saturday at Allen East. They are the NWO-YBL 3rd grade division champions.

Benjamin Logan FFA members Landon Wenger, Emma Wenger, Ava Boysel and Bradey Ackley competed at the District 6 Agricultural Sales Competition at Ridgemont High School on Feb. 14.

ADA — The blades of the wind turbine on the lawn of the Ada Exempted Village Schools quit turning in June, 2016 when lighting struck the unit. According to the contract between NexGen and the district, the school would pay NexGen for the energy produced at the turbine.

Fire destroyed a house on West North Street in Kenton on Sunday morning. According to a report from the Kenton Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched at 11:02 a.m. to the structure fire at 1022 W. North St.
