Kenton Elementary School has announced winners of the monthly leadership award for November. The award is based on students displaying attributes that include The 7 Habits as well as virtues such as Citizenship, Respect, Responsibility, Empathy, Caring, Teamwork, Fairness, Honesty, Cooperation, Integrity and Perseverance.

Volunteers formed an assembly line Thursday morning to serve more than 800 Thanksgiving dinners to area residents, first responders and shut-ins unable to get to the meal at St. John's Evangelical Church in Kenton. This is the 24th year for the event which is sponsored by Helping Hands Outreach and the United Way of Hardin County.

Putting together a lighted tree to become a part of the annual Lake of Lights show at Kenton’s France Lake this holiday season are (from left) Ethan Sprunger, Daniel Weistert, Adrean Sprunger and Avery Sprunger. Several organizations have offered assistance in setting up the display and they share in the proceeds from the display.

ALGER — The Second Expression Art Exhibition and Fundraiser for Hardin County artists and the Alger Public Library, held on Nov. 3, showcased more than 40 pieces of artwork of all shapes and sizes from all over the county. “Desert Dwellers” by Bridget Gilbert won the $50 Best Young Artist Award; “Cranes of Flight” by Ariel Carl won the $50 People’s Choice Award; and “The Guitar Man” by Ruth Anne Osborne won the $300 Best of Show Award.

Many area residents enjoyed the annual Kenton Lions Club Christmas Parade. The parade featured popular cartoon characters, a record number of floats and area high school bands.

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 1 conducted its annual winter equipment inspections on Tuesday at the Hardin County maintenance garage. The Kappa Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International recently honored three young Hardin County middle school teachers for outstanding achievement. Each was recommended by his or her school principal. Recognized at Ridgemont was Shelby Faulkner, agricultural teacher and FFA advisor.

A crew from Helms and Sons of Findlay lays down a layer of pavement on North Detroit Street between Franklin and Columbus streets in Kenton on Monday. The paving closed the stretch of street for most of the day.

The Hardin County Players will present “The Gift of the Magi” for this holiday season. It will be staged Nov. 29 and 30 at 7:30 p.m., and Dec. 1 and 2 at 2 p.m.
