Many area residents kept cool and had a lot of fun at the Immaculate Conception festival in Kenton on Sunday.

The Kenton High School class of 1948 met for a luncheon on Saturday, Aug. 4 at Henry’s Restaurant. Attending were 14 classmates and 11 guests. Classmates from out of state were Richard Baier of St. Albans, W.Va., Dennis Haudenschield from Walton, Ky., and Richard Madory from Santa Anna, Calif.

As Dennis Jesse was finishing his high school years at Riverdale in the 1980s, he expected to have a future in technology. The idea that he would become an opera singer and perform internationally would have been a joke to Jesse at that age, but it is his reality today and the Forest native wouldn't change it for the world.

Students and staff at the Kenton Head Start check out the playground at the preschool's building. The program opened for classes in April, but this fall will mark its first year in the new facility just north of Kenton on U.S. 68.

Ten Hardin County students will be starting their college careers on Aug. 21 at The Ohio State University with the assistance of scholarships through the Hardin County OSU Alumni Association. Alexis Elliott, a graduate of Ridgemont High School, is the daughter of Scott and Erin Elliott. She plans to study agricultural communications and received the Kahler-Hoge scholarship.

COLUMBUS — McKala Grauel of Ridgeway exhibited the Champion Dorset Market Lamb at the 2018 Ohio State Fair. McKala competed against 273 exhibitors with 745 market lambs to win this honor. Gene Winn of Estancia, N.M. judged the July 25 competition.

Playing for coach Jamie Bartlett at Kenton High School in the early 2000s, Rob Snowden developed an intense passion and love for the game of soccer that he carries with him to this day. That, plus his love for his alma mater, brings Snowden back to Kenton for a week each August.
