Hardin Northern will celebrate its homecoming this week with the crowning of the 2017 king and queen slated for Friday’s game against Lehman Catholic.

DOLA — After cruising to a win in its the first game, Hardin Northern looked like it would have an easy time in its volleyball match against Kenton on Saturday. And while the Polar Bears were able to pull the match out in three games, it didn’t prove to be a cakewalk.

DEFIANCE — Kylie Krohmer scored when she deflected the ball into the net during a scrum off a corner kick in the second half to help lift the Kenton girls soccer team into a 1-1 tie with Defiance in Western Buckeye League action on Saturday.

A group of local veterans climbed on a pair of commercial buses last weekend to participate in a trip they will not soon forget. The bus trip was the second for the Logan County Vets to DC organization.

McGUFFEY — Area veterans have three special places to park for the football games at Upper Scioto Valley. The brightly painted spots are red, white and blue with stars and a big USA featured on the spaces.

St. Marys did what it does best and controlled the football with its running game against Kenton on Friday night. The Wildcats were unable to find any consistency in what they do best - their passing game as - after scoring a touchdown on their first possession of the game, they weren’t able to find the end zone again until the fourth quarter in a 30-13 setback to the visiting Roughriders.

BELLEFONTAINE — The turnover bug took a big bite out of Benjamin Logan on Friday night as the Raiders coughed the ball up six times to Bellefontaine. Unable to sustain drives, the Raiders lost the cross-division Central Buckeye Conference contest to the Chieftains by a score of 49-20.

McGUFFEY — Upper Scioto Valley jumped out to a 27-0 first-quarter lead against Ridgemont and never looked back, beating the Gophers 63-8 in the Northwest Central Conference matchup on Friday. The Rams climb to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the NWCC for a four-way tie for first place.
