Couple hope MV shop will be destination for antiquers

MOUNT VICTORY — The Old Tin Cup Antiques offers something to just about every interest as it opens its doors for business on Saturday. Located beside the railroad tracks on Main Street in Mount Victory, the business had been the House of Yesteryear for many years under the ownership of Lowell and Jerry Brose. But the new owners, Jeff and Shawn Detwiler, think their shop is unique and will be a destination for antiquers throughout the area.

DUNKIRK — Hardin Northern plated runs in all five innings it batted on the way to a 10-0 softball win over Upper Scioto Valley in Northwest Central Conference action on Tuesday afternoon. The Polar Bears, who improve to 1-1 on the season, led 3-0 after two innings before scoring two times in both the third and fourth innings and three times in the fifth.

DOLA — Upper Scioto Valley broke open a close game with a six-run fifth inning on the way to a 16-3 victory over Hardin Northern in Northwest Central Conference baseball action Tuesday afternoon. Trailing 2-1 after three innings, the Rams scored two runs in the top of the fourth frame before putting six runs on the scoreboard in the fifth, one in the sixth and six more in the seventh.

Late runs carry Mohawk past Riverdale softball

SYCAMORE — Mohawk scored 10 runs over the final two innings, including eight in the fifth inning, on the way to a 12-2 softball victory over Riverdale on Tuesday afternoon. Chelsey Trusty had a single, two doubles and three RBIs to lead the Warriors, who broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the fourth and finished the game off with eight in the fifth.

ADA — Hardin Northern got some timely hitting during its baseball season-opener against Ada on Monday afternoon. The Polar Bears also needed a little bit of luck along the way for an 8-6 victory over the host Bulldogs. With a runner on second base and the score tied 6-6 with two outs in the top of the eighth inning, Dylan Hale reached first base on a dropped third strike to keep the inning alive.
