Leland: Dems need to do better job sharing their vision

The former chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party said Saturday there has not been a crisis facing the U.S. since the Civil War which threatens the nation more than the presidency of Donald Trump. Rep. David Leland said the question facing the country now is not if someone is a Democrat or Republican. “The question is are you a patriot or not?” said Leland. “Are you going to stand up for America or aren’t you?”

Fourth quarter run lifts Lady Rams

HARROD — Holding just a six-point lead over Crestview after three quarters, Upper Scioto Valley opened up the fourth with an 11-0 run, propelling them to a 57-41 Division IV sectional final girls basketball win on Saturday at Allen East. The win improved the No. 2 Rams to 19-3 and advanced them into a district semifinal contest against No. 3 Marion Local at 6:15 p.m. Thursday at Wapakoneta High School.

LIMA — Ada’s Chase Sumner is looking to make a repeat trip to the Division III state wrestling tournament in a couple weeks. The junior, who finished fourth in Ohio at 138 pounds last winter, took the first step to getting back to Columbus on Saturday by winning the Lima Central Catholic sectional crown in the 138-point weight class.

ADA — With an Ohio Athletic Conference tournament championship on the line, Ohio Northern’s Lindsey Black stepped up when her team was on the ropes. Black converted on a bucket and went 4-of-4 from the free throw line to give the Polar Bears a 61-51 lead with just under two minutes to go, propelling ONU to a 70-55 win and the OAC tournament crown.

Juniors step up as Falcons top Edison

LEXINGTON — With their senior scorers sitting with foul trouble, Riverdale got a push from a pair of juniors. Lexie Wright had 18 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals; and Reygan Frey chipped in 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists to lift the fourth-seeded Falcons over No. 7 Edison, 60-51, in a sectional final Saturday at Lexington.
